“But we can remain friends.”

“But we can remain friends,” she suggested, trying to sound reassuring.

How silly! Why would anyone want a female friend if he already has male friends?

To wait an extra 30 minutes each time we agree to meet? To talk about shopping for shoes instead of the war in Ukraine? For even more of my hair to become grey? To listen to stories about her dates with other guys?

“It would indeed be wonderful if we can,” I said.

BreakUpBench“Let’s meet for a coffee then one of these days,” she said, visibly eager to leave.

She had forgotten that I don’t drink coffee. Or she didn’t care. Or she wanted to show me that she didn’t care. I couldn’t ask anymore, for when I looked up, she was already gone. I was left alone with my thoughts, memories, questions and regrets, wishing they all would have left with her.

About Andreas Moser

Travelling the world and writing about it. I have degrees in law and philosophy, but I'd much rather be a journalist, a spy or a hobo.

Tja, and how about when a man, German man, tells you the same shit. I am confused. I was raised between men, brothers and cousins. And now my guy acts like a girl and wants to be friends??? I just want to punch him in the face…and kick him when his on the floor. Well, no wonder he rather be my friend, LOL.

I know girls who would do that – rather talk about politics, philosophy, science etc than shopping. and I also know guys who take forever to get ready to go out. so maybe there is still hope ;)

    • In all fairness, I should say that the girl who prompted me to write this story – if it wasn’t a completely fictional story anyway, which it of course is – never talked about any boring girly subjects. Quite the contrary, she was/is quite clever and interesting.
The stereotype was only added for literary effect.

  3. We all know that there is no friendship between a girl and a guy if there is no interest at least from one side of the subjects. I know this because I did a research myself with the guy friends I have that are not partners with my female friends.

    • I wouldn’t say that there can’t be any friendship between guys and girls, not least because some of us guys aren’t really that much into girls. But I don’t think it’s advisable to try having a friendship if one wanted more once.
